Sustainibilty-- Meeting the needs of the people today, without harming the resources of the people tomorrow. An example would be instead of getting bigger, faster cars (if you do buy a car) just get one that will accomodate you and your family or whatever.
Freegan-- A freegan is a person who basically lives of others peoples trash.(They find good stuff to) An example would be instead of buying new jeans the go find hem in the trash.
Stewardship-- To be responsible for. For example if you have a plastic bottle and you throw it away in a a recycling bin not a thrash-can.
Biomimicry-- To mimic (imitate) life/nature. An example would be goggles, movie effects (rain, waves, wind, snow, floods, fire)
Ecological Footprint-- What we humans leave behind on the earth that has some sort of impact on the earth. An example would be the CO2 we create from burning fossil fuels.
Overshoot-- The distance/gap between supply and demand. An example would be if we demand alot more from the earth than it can supply us with someones going to go hungry.
What Does This Equation Mean? area x bioproductivity = biocapacity [SUPPLY] population x consumption per person x footprint intensity = ecological footprint [DEMAND]
It is what the earth can supply us with and what we demand.
What is the significance of the year 1987?
The first year our demand went over what the earth could supply us with.
What happened on October 6, 2007?
The day we used all the resources for 2007.
